To sum up social presence it basically means 'being with other people' and your digital footprint which others can view about you and how easy you are to contact.
Social presence is something which can seriously affect you in the eyes of an employer for example if you aren't cautious of what your digital footprint may be hiding. Your social presence can contain what sites you visit, old pictures, comments etc.
I struggled to find a lot of in depth information about social presence as it just appears to be things about 'social presence theory' this is interaction and the consequent salience of the. interpersonal relationships but not quite focused on the key concepts of social presence but. I think in my opinion that the topic is based on your digital footprint and that when you post things online you have to be wary of knowing that it may or may not always be available for others see in one way or another.
changing your digital footprint is a way of protecting yourself and your personal image/reputation but not many people want to try alter their digital footprint or don't know how to. If you delete your profiles online this is the easiest way to clear your social presence as you will no longer have a profile for people to view.

Didn't know much about social presence before and your blog has helped me to understand it better. I was never aware of what a 'digital footprint' was and reading this has helped to understand that we need to be aware of what information is available about you online and to manage profiles better as future employers look at this.
ReplyDeleteI was the same before I researched it, I always just thought it was only classed as having a Facebook etc and that your digital footprint was just that profile, wasn't aware of who knew everything about you. I'm glad this helped you, it's definitely an eye opener that people can know so much about you and you don't know what it is.
DeleteGreat use of an info graphic and I liked your heading and sub heading, however I feel your little summary at the start confused me a little bit as it said "basically means being with other people". I think you meant that it is being with other people online. I found your links very useful and they gave me a greater understanding of what social presence is. Overall well done!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your feedback Joe-lee, I was confused at first too but that seemed to be the only simplified definition I could find when I researched what it was, tried to find a simple definition rather than a really long one which I should have went for instead to make it clearer. From what I was gathering from my research, I learned that social presence isn't just online but it is classed as in person also as it's through any way of socialising whether it's online or having a coffee with someone, glad it helped you understand more, sorry some of it confused you, I'll make sure I make it clearer in my future blogs, thank you!
